(20-08.1918, Yayji village of Julfa region- 0.09.1993, Baki, was
buried in “Fekhri Khiyaban” (Honor Avenue)) – a physician.
Doctor of physical-mathematical sciences, associate member of
USSR Scientific Academy (1970), academician of the National
Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan (1967; associate member 1955),
laureate of Azerbaijan State Reward (1972). He graduated from
the faculty of Physics-Mathematics of the Azerbaijani State
Pedagogical Institute (present Azerbaijani Pedagogical
University) (1941) and graduate course of the Institute of
Physics-Mathematics of the National Scientific Academy of
Azerbaijan (1948). He was a director of the institutes of
Physics-Mathematics (1950, 1957-58) and Physics (1959-1968),of
the National Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan, academic
secretary of the Physics-mathematics and techniques department
of the National Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan (1968-1970) and
president of the National Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan
(1970-1983). Abdullayev got scientific experience as a result of
the researches of selenium, tellurium, their combination and the
physics of semi-conductor devices prepared on the basis of these
two elements and the role of selenium in biological processes.
With the leadership of Abdulayev new long-term electric engines
were invented. USA and French patents were given to Abdulayev’s
semi-conductor material for thermo-electric turners. He created
a scientific school on semi-conductor physics in Azerbaijan.
With the initiative of Abdullayev the chair of semi-conductor
physics was established at Baku State University in 1956.
Abdullayev was a member of the scientific board of “ Physics and
Chemistry of semi-conductors” attached to the Presidium of the
USSR Scientific Academy, chief of the “The problems of physics”
scientific board and the presidium of “Bilik” society of the
republic and chief of the State Awards Committee of Azerbaijani
Republic in the fields of science and techniques. He is an
author of 11 monographs, ore than 300 scientific works and 40
inventories. Abdullayev made speech in the International
scientific meetings in USA (1961,1972), France (1957,1971,1976),
Great Britain (1962), Japan (1966), Sweden (1971) etc. and made
special speech on physics of semi-conductors in Turkey (1974).
Abdullayev’s book “Electron semi-conductors and their
applications” (1952) is the first work published in Azerbaijan
languages on the physics of semi-conductors. He was elected a
deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR (VIII-XI summon).
Abdullayev was granted with the orders of Lenin, Red Labor Flag
and the golden medal named after S.I.Vavilov of the USSR
scientific academy. The Institute of Physics of the National
Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan in front of the Institute a
memorial plague which is his bas-relief. One of the streets and
schools in Nakhchivan is named after him.
