Haydar Aliyev

          Haydar Aliyev became famous for the transfer to Latin alphabet in Azerbaijan, the improvement of the application of the state language, the decrees signed by him in 2001 about the ratification of the Azerbaijan Alphabet and the Day of Azerbaijan Language, his address to the Azerbaijan people, calling them to protect the national-spiritual values and his tireless activity in the provision of the alphabet and a language unity among the Turkish nations and states and in a lot of other issues. He declared “Scientific Academy be the historical achievement of Azerbaijan people” and paid great attention to the development of science in the republic. With the decree dated on the 15^th of May in 2001 Haydar Aliyev granted the Academy of Sciences with the name of the National Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan and again highly confirmed the fact that the duties of this grand scientific institution in front of Azerbaijan people and the academic science are the main suppliers of the country development. With Haydar Aliyev’s decree dated on the 7^th of August in 2002, Nakhchivan Branch of the National Scientific Academy of Azerbaijan was created.

         Azerbaijan people and the advanced international community celebrated the 75 and 80 years anniversary of Haydar Aliyev with a great ceremony. In Azerbaijan and many different countries the continuous books and book-albums about the great activity of Haydar Aliyev in the state independence and progress of Azerbaijan were published. Nakhchivan period of Haydar Aliyev’s political activity, especially during the years when he worked as chief of the Supreme Assembly of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (1991-1993), was very tough moment of the political, social and economic and cultural development of Nakhchivan, but at the same time very significant period. First of all, Haydar Aliyev saved Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the armed aggression and occupation of Armenia. During these years with Haydar Aliyev’s initiative the Supreme Assembly of the Autonomous Republic decided to remove the words “Soviet Socialist” from its name and declared the three-colored flag of Azerbaijan People Republic (1918-1920) as a state flag of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The grand attention was paid to the solution of the economic problems of the Autonomous Republic, which was in blockade. For this purpose the economic relations with neighboring countries Turkey and Iran were set. “The Bridge of Hope” combining Nakhchivan and Turkey and the Shahtakht-Poldast Bridge for the transportation of luggage and passengers from and to Iran were built. After Haydar Aliyv’s return to the political leadership of Azerbaijan like in all other regions of Azerbaijan in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic either, the tranquility, the social and economic stability was established, and successful steps were experienced in the revival of the economy and in the solution of social-cultural problems.

          The President of Azerbaijan Republic, Haydar Aliyev’s order, dated on the 12^th of February in 1999, about “The Acting Plan of the State Committee of the 75 years of anniversary of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” determined the future development perspectives of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Haydar Aliyev’s attendance to the jubilee ceremonies strongly motivated the implementation of the comprehensive development program of the Autonomous Republic.
